School Curriculum and Treaty Education

In the article “Curriculum Policy and the Politics of What Should be Learned in Schools”, the curriculum goes through many processes before it is developed and ready to be released.  The first step is that the government looks over the policies in regards to education. As the article states “Policies govern just about every aspect of education” (pg.8). They compare the government going over education policies with politics.  “Every education policy decision can be seen as being, in some sense, a political decision.” (pg.8). Going off of this example it can be a personal preference, people vote using their own opinions. The influence of policies shape the curriculum and the school.

New information to me is that the curriculum is heavily influenced by the government and my concern is the students aren’t heard very often.

Saskatchewan Treaty Education document talks alot about treat education and how you should know specific topics by this time. Honestly from what i had taken from seminar my school talked more about first nations than anyone else at my table. Though I was taught a little more than my classmates, I still don’t have the knowledge of these goals that are mentioned in this document. The first article talks more about the government and councils, rather than the document that has four subject areas. The treaty education is very tricky because not only do you have to teach it correctly but you have to also make it as important as the other subject areas in the curriculum.
